SOLID MONOLAYERS OF HEPTANE ADSORBED TO GRAPHITE FROM ITS LIQUID

1999
Abstract Adsorption at the interface between liquid n -heptane and a graphite substrate has been studied by incoherent elastic/quasi-elastic neutron scattering and coherent neutron diffraction. A solid monolayer of n -heptane persists above the bulk melting point (183 K) and melts at 206 K, which is in contrast to the fact that the monolayer adsorbed at submonolayer coverages melts at 151 K. The crystalline structure is significantly different between those two monolayers.
