Bipolar Forceps monopolar extension

An endoscopic forceps (10) comprising: a housing (20) having a shaft (12) attached thereto, including the shaft (12) jaw members first and second (110, 120) attached to a distal end thereof ; an actuator (40, 44, 70, 71, 73) for moving the jaw members (110, 120) relative to one another from a first position wherein the jaw members (110, 120) are arranged in a spaced relation relative to one another, to a second position wherein the jaw members (110, 120) cooperate to grasp tissue therebetween; each jaw member (110, 120) is adapted to connect to a source (300) of electrosurgical energy such that the jaw members (110, 120) are capable of conducting bipolar energy through tissue held therebetween; a blade (185) that is selectively movable within a channel (115) defined blade within at least one member of first and second jaw (110, 120) to cut tissue disposed between the jaw members first and second ( 110, 120) and a monopolar element (154) housed within at least the first jaw member (120) and integrally associated with the knife (185), said monopolar element (154) being adapted to connect to the source (300 ) of electrosurgical energy and being selectively activatable independently of the jaw members (110, 120); wherein the monopolar element (154) is selectively movable with respect to the blade (185) from a first position within the first jaw member (120) to a second distal position relative to the first jaw member (120).
