Wash waves: Problems and solutions. Discussion. Authors' closure

2000
This paper will address the increasing problem of ship generated waves in coastal areas. It will include a discussion of the damage of the damage and danger that wash wavs can present, and what can be done in terms of designing a HSC (high speed craft) in such a manner that the wash waves generated are minimised. This will include a comparative evaluation of HSC concepts, what can be done in terms of optimisation, how to evaluate the design and what can be expected in terms of accuracy and limitations when evaluating the design's wash wave. HSC wash wave regulations in Scandinavia will be discussed, and a different approach to regulations will be presented. As a final measure recommendations and guidelines will be given for how to create route planning that will be beneficiary for low wash wave impact in coastal and shallow areas.
