A Powered Rotary Chisel

1980
ABSTRACT A powered rotary chisel was designed and then tested in laboratory soil bins. The forward-rotating powered chisel provided its own thrust through the soil and returned a portion of its power to the system as a negative draft force. The powered chisel disturbed a larger volume of soil and broke the soil more finely than did a rigid chisel. Based on the experimental results and assumed power transmission efficiency, it is projected that the powered rotary chisel is more energy efficient than a rigid chisel.
