Prevention and Control of Severe Diarrhea Project in Tourist and Border Provinces(โครงการป้องกันและควบคุมโรคอุจจาระอย่างแรงในจังหวัดท่องเที่ยวและจังหวัดชายแดน)

2013
The objective of the study was to evaluate quantitatively and qualitatively the prevention and control of severe diarrhea project in 6 tourist and border provinces in the RE. 2f143 fiscal year by employing CIPP model. It was reported that the project was feasible and able to control severe diarrhea in the designated areas. Once the plan for disease prevention was formulated, the district health committee accordingly analysed epidemiological data to identify high risk areas. Their environmental sanitation were to be improved and proper personal hygiene were introduced. Any epidemic outbreak. was to be controlled within 10 days. The actual financial and logistic support was on the average, 78.9 percent of the requested amount. The implementation reportedly improved the standard of the restaurants, markets, and drinking water quality as, respectively, 66.9, 66.7 and 89.9 percent of them fell within the criteria recommended by the Department or' Health. The conditions were better than the Department recorded averages of the previous yearsurveys. Yet the success of the active surveillance and the rectal swab culture in acute diarrheal out -patients were not witnessed.. The practice of the lauer is yet to be evaluated in terms of cost-effectiveness.  The morbidity rate of severe diarrhea dropped to 8.7 cases per 100,000 population yet the decrease was not statistically significant (p >0.05). For long term effectiveness the implement should be more site-specific and based on relevant research and development. more supervision as well as health manpower development may be needed.
