The Pharmacological Importance of Quercus incana: A Review

Baloot or Quercus incana, commonly known as blue jack oak or cinnamon oak, a large evergreen tree, belongs to genus Quercus, largest genus of family Fagaceae, approximately 900 species distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia as well as temperate zones of Northern Hemisphere The genus Quercus have long been considered among the clades of woody angiosperms in terms of species diversity, horticulture merit and ecological dominance, industrial and economic values. Every part of this plant fruits, bark has medicinal properties. It works on different system of body. Four compounds namely cirsimaritin, eupatorin, betulin, and b-amyrin acetate has been isolated from the leaves extract of Quercus incana which are pharmacologically very active and possess great medicinal properties such as Antibacterial activity, Antifungal activity, Antioxidant activity, Anxiolytic activity, Antidepressant activity, Anti-nociceptive activity, Apoptotic activity, Anti-inflammatory activity, Analgesic activity, Anti-gastrointestinal motility activity. In vivo and In vitro Studies based pharmacological properties are reviewed here further human and animal study is needed to explore the properties of Quercus for improvement of quality of life.
