The effects of electronic-vibrational-rotational interactions in molecular Rydberg spectra

1988
Abstract In Rydberg spectra of diatomic molecules it has been found that rotational adiabatic conditions may be satisfied, in general, in any part of the spectrum. The appearance of adiabatic regions is due to the stroboscopic effect. The conditions for classical and quantum stroboscopic effects have been obtained and the sizes of the adiabatic regions have been estimated. It is noted that the existence of a threshold adiabatic band is possible. The results obtained are in good agreement with available experimental and numerical data for the Rydberg spectra of H 2 and D 2 .
