PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS OF WOMEN BEEDI WORKERS: A CASE STUDY OF MUSTABAD, ANDHRA PRADESH

Women constitute half of the world population, having enormous working potential. Women are entering into so many other fields on par with their male counterparts. In the arena of 20 th century, most of the women are still facing hardships in the organized and unorganized sector. One of the major grave industries is Tobacco Industry or Beedi making industry, where most of the workers are women and children only. Even though the Government from time to time enhancing the facilities to these workers, also taking steps to eradicate the child labor, most of the women and children are working in this particular sector. However, the role of Takedhar or intermediaries is unbridled. Government has to take necessary steps for the implementation of the labor laws in this particular industry, which is confined only to the paper. The present paper focuses on the problems faced by the women beedi workers, their socio-economic background, problems faced by Takedhar, government support given to these workers etc.,
