Abstract Arsenic (As) has been well documented as toxic and carcinogenic element since 1970. Mining and extraction of Au, Ag, Pb, Zn, Cu and Ni from sulfides ores consist significant sources of heavy metal(loid)’s anthropogenic exposure. The current review article focuses on the quantification of As generation through the metallurgical processing of refractory gold-bearing ores, while it highlights the relative optimum decontamination-immobilization techniques.
