Mathematical modeling of the diffusion chromium plating of steels in stationary and moving alloying mixtures

1. Mathematical models of the dependence of the thickness of the diffusion layer on carbon concentration and saturation temperature during the diffusion chromium plating of carbon steels are obtained. 2. The growth rate of the diffusion layer during the chromium plating of steels in a moving mixture is appreciably higher (by a factor of 2.5–4) than that during standard saturation in a stationary charge. 3. The activation energy of the chromium-plating process in a moving mixture is approximately 40% lower than that in the stationary mixture. Its value depends to a lesser degree on the saturation parameters (temperature and time) in the first case than in the second; this suggests a higher stability of the results of diffusion metallizing in a moving mixture.
