RFLP-s in Human Genome Detected by Human Ribosomal Protein cDNA Probe

1996
ABSTRACTSix RFLP-s (restriction fragment length polymorphisms) detected in processed pseudogene sequences of the multigene family encoding human ribosomal protein S-14 were studied. The polymorphisms showed that on average one of about 250 bases in these sequences is variant, which is the case with the mutation rate in other non-coding sequences—introns, pseudogenes, etc. We conclude that no selection was applied to the ribosomal processed gene sequences, i.e. their role in shaping the genome, if any, is a passive one.
