PI-PSO algorithm based voltage controller of STATCOM for self-excited induction generator

2015
Voltage and frequency deviation degrades the power quality of self-excited induction generators (SEIG). This paper analyzes the performance of static compensator (STATCOM)-based voltage and frequency controllers (VFC) for SEIG with battery energy storage system at their DC link. And we propose a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to find the optimal proportional and integral (PI) parameters mixed with fixed PI parameters (PI-PSO) of STATCOM for the solid voltage control to improve the power quality. The proposed controller under static loads, dynamic loads and varying generator parameters is verified using MATLAB/Simulink. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PI-PSO controller for STATCOM-SEIG systems under varying loads and generator parameters.
