Reanimación cardiopulmonar en paciente pediátrico electrocutado por rayo
2011
The cardiorespiratory arrest due to ray’s electrocution is a clinical emergency in infants by its low risk perception in face of these atmospheric phenomena that may lead to harmful consequences if vigorous and immediate measures are not applied. The behavior of a Cuban resuscitation staff of the Barrio Adentro Mission in the successful rescue of an electrocuted child is described. At Emergent Care Unit a male patient aged 5 years, unconscious, with cyanotic color and injury from burn in upper and lower extremities caused by the electric discharge was cared for. At once of his transfer, advanced techniques of cardiac and traumatic vital support were applied to achieve the initial stabilization and the resolution of the possible associated complications until its later remission to Intensive Care Unit with possibility of mechanical ventilation and required monitoring. The immediate transfer to a hospital center and the early resuscitation of electrocuted pediatric patients, as well as the measures directed to brain protection, are the gold rule in the emergent assistance of these patients, which are potentially recoverable.
