Micropropagation of Bamboo and Phormium, ornamental plants with variegated leaves

2003
In the last 10-15 years, while the micropropagation of fruit plants has been static and at some moments has even regressed, ornamental plants for gardens have recorded a gradual increase. At the Nursery Battistini Giuseppe some experiments have been carried out to obtain greater efficiency in the micropropagation of variegated bamboos and Phormium. The experiments have given good results for variegated bamboos; in fact, the combination of liquid substratum with 2 mg/l of BAP has made it possible to obtain a rate of proliferation of 4 to 1. The variegated Phormium has evidenced a fairly good proliferation on liquid substratum with 4 mg/1 of BAP, while it was not possible to reduce the phenomenon of loss of the variegation; therefore, it was not possible to produce these plants on large scale
