Maritime Security Cooperation in the South China Sea

2016
Chu Hao and Chen Qinghong offer a summary of the security challenges in the South China Sea and analyze their consequences. Focusing on the benefits of maritime security cooperation, the chapter also presents the limits of current naval cooperation and conflict management in the South China Sea. The chapter concludes with four policy developments that will contribute to maintaining order and stability in the South China Sea: full and effective implementation of the DOC; maintain frequent high-level visits; deepen confidence-building measures (CBMs); and strengthen regional cooperation.
