Ege Üniversitesi hastanesinde tiroit kanserlerinin epidemiyolojik ve genel sağ kalım özellikleri

2020
Aim: To evaluate epidemiologic features and survival outcomes of 8450 patients treated with the diagnosis of thyroid cancer in Ege University Hospital (EUH) between 1992-2017 and compare them with the literature. Materials and Methods: The thyroid cancer patients’ data that was collected by Ege University Cancer Research Center, was recorded to CANREG computer program, and analyses was performed according to WHO and SEER system definitions. Chi-square, General Linear Model and Kaplan-Meier survival analyses was performed for further analyses. Log Rank (Mantel-Cox), Breslow (Generalized Wilcoxon) and Tarone-Ware statistics was used for survival analyses. P<0,05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: A total of 8450 patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 1763 male (20.9%), 6687 female (79.1%) between 1992 and 2017 were evaluated in Ege University Hospital. Looking at the age group of thyroid cancers, it was seen that the median age was 40-49 (26.2%). When the histological types of thyroid cancer were examined, it was found that 91.2% of the patients were diagnosed with PTC, 5.7% of the patients with FTC, 2.3% of them with MTC and 0.7% of them with ATC. When the PTC subtypes, which is the most common thyroid cancer type, were examined, classic variant in 3273 cases (43.5%), follicular variant in 1914 cases (25.4%), papillary microcarcinoma in 1819 cases (24.2%), 439 cases ( oncocytic variant (5.8%) and tall cell variant in 21 cases (0.3%) were detected. Male gender, histological type of thyroid cancer and histological variants for papillary cancer were determined as important factors in prognosis (p <0.001). Conclusion: The worldwide increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer can also be seen in our data. This is especially true for papillary thyroid cancer. Histological type of thyroid cancer and variants of papillary thyroid cancer are the most important factors in survival.
