The Variation of Lattice Parameter of UC–ZrC Solid Solutions with Temperature and Composition
2008
The variation of lattice parameter of uranium carbide‐zirconium carbide solid solutions with temperature has been measured by high‐temperature neutron diffraction. The cubic lattice parameter, was determined from 800 to 2300°C for samples (UxZr1−x)C plus excess carbon, with x from 0 to 0.181. The lattice parameter of all the samples in this composition range can be approximated by the equation at = a25 (1 + 6.6(3);×10−6[t−25] + 0.7(2) × 10−9[t−25]2) from room temperature to 2300°C.
