It is somewhat difficult to understand why the primary title of this book is Cutaneous Investigation in Health and Disease and that it is the first book in a series entitled Clinical Dermatology . It is not clinically oriented and rarely mentions any disease. The book, however, will be very useful in several areas of clinical investigation and describes many noninvasive methods and instrumentation; this is the book's secondary title. This book is directed mostly toward methods used for the measurement of physical characteristics of the skin. Although methods for measuring the mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, and acoustic properties of a substance have been available for many years, they have been used much more in the physical rather than the biological domain.
