On Julian day notation for meteorological conditions

1983
Abstract The Julian Day is used by astronomers to record periodic events. It is a reckoning of the number of days from 12 noon, January 1, 4713 B.C. Some biological scientists have used this pre-empted term to describe the calendar day of the year. Examples of its use for astronomical and biological applications have been noted. The term ‘day of the year’ would seem to be adequate for biological cases noted in the literature where calendricity needs to be preserved on the time base. Current misuse of the term Julian Day by biologists is not justified and should be abandoned.
