Efficacy of Bisoprolol on Clinical Blood Pressure and Ambulatory Blood Pressure in Patients with Essential Hypertension

2006
Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficiency of bisoprolol in treating patients with essential hypertension. Methods: Clinical blood pressure(BP), ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and biochemical markers were observed in thirty-six patients who were mild and severe preliminary diagnosis essential hypertension before and after treating with bisoprolol four weeks and compared with the placebo control group. Results: Ten patients had evident effect and forteen patients had effect in the bisoprolol group, correspondingly, there was four patients and ten patients in the control group. The difference had statistical significance(P 0.05). Clinical BP, heart rate, 24 h BP, daily BP, night BP, maximal BP, minimal diastolic BP all decreased(P 0.05). T/P ratio of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure was 53% and 69% respectively, the biochemical markers were not statistically significant before and after treatment. Conclusion: Bisoprolol is not only effective and safe, but also no any influence on metabolism of lipids and glucose in treating patients with essential hypertension.
