Monitoring roles of hyaluronic acid and hyaluronoglucosaminidase 1 after operation of blandder cancer

2013
Objective To evaluate whether hyaluronic acid (HA) and hyaluronoglucosaminidase 1 (HYAL1) can predict progression to muscle invasion and recurrence among patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Methods There were 144 cases of bladder cancer who were followed up,including 110 cases of non-muscle-invasive bladder and 34 cases of muscle-invasive bladder cancer.Combined detection of HA and HYAL1 for bladder cancer recurrence and muscle invasion was done by using univariate and multivariate models. Results In non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer specimens, during the course of disease,HYAL1 level was higher (210.6 ±68.4,240.3 ±62.2) in patients with muscle invasion or recurrence than in patients without invasion or recurrence (168.5 ± 6.6,210.4 ± 7.9,P > 0.05).Multivariate analysis revealed that HYAL1 was significantly correlated with recurrence (59.6% sensitivity,P < 0.05)and muscle invasion (76.8% sensitivity,P < 0.05).Conclusion HYAL1 is probalblely an independent marker in predicting progression to muscle invasion and recurrence in bladder cancer. Key words: Hyaluronic acid;  Bladder carcinoma;  Tumor marker
