Study of the influence of the field incidence direction on finite PBG structures

2004
In this paper, a modeling method based on the finite element method (FEM) is presented and used to characterize finite and infinite active periodic structures. It presents the advantages of a precise description of the studied geometry and of taking into account all the possible field incidence directions. Moreover, our modeling method yields to the structure characteristics in far-field as well as in near-field. The structure presented here is an active metallic photonic band-gap that could be used as reconfigurable antenna reflector or radome. Our method takes the inserted diodes into account without neglecting the electromagnetic coupling between distributed parts and lumped components.
