Abstract A novel violet pigment, rosacyanin B, was isolated from the petals of Rosa hyb rida cv. ‘M'me Violet’, and its structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods. rosacyanin B is the first C-4 substituted anthocyanidin isolated from intact plants.
