Open Tension Free Hernia Repair in Situ for Parastomal Hernia with Report of 36 Cases

Objective To discuss the cause of parastomal hernia and the clinical application of open tension free hernia repair in situ with the utilization of polypropylene monofilament mesh.Methods 38 cases of parastomal hernia that had been undergone open tension free hernia repair in situ with the utilization of polypropylene monofilament mesh from August 2002 to October 2009 were analyzed retrospectively.Results Successful surgery was achieved in all 38 cases with post-operation hospital stay of 10~16 days respectively.No occurrence of post operation infection,subcutaneous hydrops,intestinal necrosis,or intestinal obstruction.There was 1 case of late relapse.Conclusion The destruction of aponeurosis of external oblique muscle of abdomen is the cause of parastomal hernia.The utilization of Prolene,also known as the polypropylene monofilament mesh,is recommended for tension free hernia repair for parastomal hernia with the advantage of effectiveness and simple operation.
