Shielding geometry effect on SEE prediction using the new OMERE release: JASON-2 mission case study

2011
The 2011 release of the OMERE freeware includes a module that allows to consider the shielding effect of the satellite geometry in the calculation of Single Event Effects (SEE) on electronic devices. This module has been applied to calculations performed for proton induced SEE aboard the JASON-2 satellite. Calculated prediction rates agree with those observed in-flight. The shielding effect has also been studied by “placing” the satellite in a geosynchronous orbit radiation environment, for both “out-of-flare” and “in-flare” configurations. In the “in-flare” case, the shielding geometry of the satellite has a great impact on the calculated rate.
