Modeling of Fuel Consumption of Passenger Cars Based on Their Technical Characteristics
2021
The article presents a mathematical model for determining the fuel consumption of passenger cars, using a minimum number of specifications and operating conditions. Fuel consumption rates declared by vehicle manufacturers differ significantly from experienced operating data, and this leads both to additional financial costs and to incorrect assessment of environmental damage. Existing methods of modeling vehicle fuel consumption in operation that use telematics data require pre-calibration of the equipment. Models based on them are difficult to use because of the large number of parameters. It is proposed to simulate the fuel efficiency of cars only on the basis of its technical characteristics, as well as the average speed of travel. For this purpose, experimental data on the movement of 796 passenger cars were used. The data were obtained during the operation of cars in the European part of Russia during 2017–2019. Based on the data obtained, a mathematical regression model has been built. It is shown that the application of the resulting fuel consumption model only on the basis of changes in average speed allows one to achieve accuracy acceptable for practical use in the case of passenger cars. The modeling error does not exceed 2.97%. The model does not use data on vehicle load, climate and road conditions and still gives reliable values in the case of passenger cars of B and C class.
