Temperature gradient-induced instability in a solid state plasma

1972
A solid state plasma subject to crossed electric and magnetic fields and with electron drift is found to be unstable when temperature and density gradients are present in the same direction as the electron drift velocity. The frequency of the oscillations and their maximum growth rate are plotted as a function of the magnetic field for a sample of n-type indium antimonide.
