TYRE RETAINING WALL ON THE M62

1982
Waste tyres are still strong and durable at the end of their life on wheels. They are freely available in large quantities and are considered as a disposal problem. West Yorkshire metropolitan county council has developed a system using waste tyres to form retaining walls or steepened slopes. The system was recently used as remedial action for a slip on the M62 motorway near Bradford for the Department of Transport. There was a considerable saving in time and money. There are many other locations where the system could be used and show similar savings. (Author/TRRL)
