Revisión y síntesis de las estimaciones acústicas de abundancia de anchoíta (Engraulis anchoita) efectuadas entre 1993 y 2008

The annual research planning of the Instituto Nacional de Investigacion y Desarrollo Pesquero (INIDEP) includes at least two surveys to estimate the total biomass of Argentine anchovy Northern and Southern stocks. The assessment is performed using hydroacoustic techniques and the Daily Egg Production Method. In this paper the results of the acoustic estimates obtained during the 1993-2008 period are summarized. Besides, the studies performed to determine the characteristics of the species behavior such as vertical migrations or avoidance reactions to vessels that would produce uncertainty about estimates absolute value are discussed.
