Comparison of lipids in euphasia pacific and antarctic krill

2011
This study was conducted to compare lipid and fatty acid composition of E.pacific and E.superba. Total lipids were extracted using the method of Folch instead of Soxhlet extraction. Silica gel column chromatography was used to isolate and analyse the total lipids, such as neutral lipid, glycolipid and phospholipid. Methyl esterification of the extracted lipids was determined by GC. The results showed that the total lipid were both about 15% in E.pacific and E.superba, while the neutral lipids were the major lipid class, about 68% of the total lipid. The content of EPA and DHA were both more than 20% in E.pacific and E.superba. However, there were remaining some differences between them, such as lipid content and fatty acid composition of phospholipids. According to the analysis of fatty acids, the results show that the E.pacific and E.superba have very good application in fatty acids, especially polyunsaturated fatty acids.
