Avaliação corporal de búfalos (Bubalus bubalis) e bovinos Nelore (Bos indicus), terminados em confinamento

1995
With the objective of evaluating the carcass characteristics it was slaughtered 12 Jafarabadi and 12 Mediterranean buffaloes and 06 Nelore bulls. All the animals were intact males, finished in feed lot for 112 days and slaughtered with an average of 19 months of age and liveweight of 472.00kg, adjusted for the three groups studied. Results of statistical analysis obtained by covariance in relation to the empty body weight demonstrated that the buffaloes, compared to Nelore bulls, presented smaller(P≤ 0.01) values for:hot and chilled carcass weight; forequarther, pistola, flank and plate, total retail products in carcass weights dressing percentage and loin eye area; while presented higher (P≤ 0.0 1) values for: total bone, total trimmings fat and total empty gastrointestinal tracts: head, hide, feet, empty stomachs and empty guts, weights and fat thickness over the loin eye area.
