Mobile Augmented Reality using 3D Ruler in a Robotic Educational Module to Promote STEM learning

2020
Robotics education is gaining popularity among school children in line with the government's desire to promote creative thinking in students through STEM based activities. However, robots for educational games are usually made up of robot components and the description of robot components is one-way and static. In addition, students find it difficult to visualize distances from robot movements when playingeducational robotic games. Augmented Reality (AR) technology is a viable tool to connect between in-context information and physical activities. The objective of this research is to design and develop a mobile application based on AR to provide students with additional support in learning robots. The mobile application consists of three parts. The first part is using ARin identification of components related to robots. The second part involves the addition of real-time visualization in the form of AR that enables students to learn the distance from the robot's movements. The third part is using AR in providing the description of the robotic games through videos. The development of the mobile application is based on the Agile model. The results show that the mobile application has received positive feedbacks from students as it can increase their interest in playing robotic educational games. Student’s interest in robotics and engineering can give positive impacts in increasing STEM learning through robotic educational module.
