Cartridge, disk drive, and disk medium library for hubless disk

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cartridge for hubless optical disk which can be processed by means of a standard optical disk drive and is constituted by combining an adapter cartridge and a caddy. SOLUTION: A cartridge which can be used for an optical disk drive, etc., for optical disk storage library is composed of an adapter cartridge 42 and a caddy 44. The cartridge 42 and caddy 44 respectively have recessed sections 152 and 112 and, when the sections 152 and 112 are filled up, the cartridge 42 and caddy 44 form an enclosure for disk. The cartridge 42 is provided with a floating hub 154 which is engaged with the main shaft 52 of the disk drive for rotating a disk. A standard drive has a shutter arm and is used for pushing out the caddy 44 and disk from the cartridge 32 after the cartridge 42 is pushed out from the drive. A cache and disk can be carried to the storage library by grasping the cache and disk with a picker or can be handled by an operator. COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
