First partofthis paperpresents an OceanBottom Seismometers (OBS)designed andconstructed formid-term deployments inordertostudytheearthdynamics andinternal structurea Manymarineresearch institutes havedeveloped such equipment, howeverthereisno standard methodfortheir characterization andcalibration. Thesecond partdiscusses the characterization tests basedontheinternational standards carried outtopresent thespecifications oftheequipment built. Calibration oftheconstructed OBSiscarried outthrough anoceanographic cruise usinga widely usedreference OBS.Dataquality ofthe instruments isevaluated bydirect inspection ofthecorresponding seismic record sections.
