SHARED ANTIGENIC DETERMINANTS BETWEEN HUMAN BRAIN AND HUMAN T-CELL LINE

1974
SUMMARY Rabbits wereimmunized withMOLT cells (Tcells) andRPMInumber1788 (Bcells) togetrespective antisera. Theseserawereabsorbed withhumanliver, humanbrain, orvarious Bcells (RPMInumber1788, SOMMER-Bcell, B-35M cells andB-411cells). Theresults indicate that thecytotoxicity ofrabbit anti-MOLT serumagainst MOLT cells could beabsorbed tosomeextent withhumanliver andvarious B cells butnotcompletely. Humanbrain could completely absorb anti-MOLT activity fromrabbit anti-MOLT serum.Humanbraincouldnot removeanti-B-cell activity fromrabbit anti-RPMI number1788(Bcells). Rat brain didnotremoveanti-MOLT activity fromanti-MOLT serum. Thesedatasuggest thathumanbrain hasantigenic determinants identical or verysimilar tothose found onMOLT cells andthuspossibly humanthymocytes.
