Experimental study on the therapeutic effect of Dahuang Zhechong Pill and Astragalus on type 2 diabetes in rats

AIM To observe the effect of Dahuang Zhechong Pill and Astragalus on blood glucose in rats with type 2 diabetic.METHODS The model of type 2 diabetic rats was established by the administration of hyper-lipid fodder and injection of small dose of streptozotocin.Fifty SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: control group,model group,pravastatin control group,Dahuang Zhechong Pill group,Dahuang Zhechong Pill and Astragalus group.After four weeks intragastric administration,the tail blood was taken for the determination of blood lipid,blood glucose and immunological function.All the changes in behavior and body weight were observed and recorded.The rat organs were separated anatomically,weighed and organ coefficient was calculated.RESULTS Compared with control group,the model group had high level of blood glucose,low-density lipoprotein(LDL),triacylglycerol(TG),cholesterol(CHO),and complement C3 and C4,low levels of IgG and complement CH50,heavy weight of heart,liver and lung and light weight of thymus and body.However,Dahuang Zhechong Pill and Astragalus group,reduction in the levels of blood glucose,LDH,TG,CHO,HDL and complement C3,increase in CH50 levels,improvement in the body weight loss of type 2 diabetic rats and reversal in lung overweight but for spleen and thymus weight loss were observed.CONCLUSION The combination of Danghuang Zhenchong Pill and Asteaglus has the hypoglycemic effect on type 2 diabetic rats.
