Experimental Study on the Effect of Piper longum L.on Immune Function in Rats with Insulin Resistance Syndrome

2011
Objective To observe the effect of ethanol extract of Piper longum L.(EEPL) on immune function in rats with insulin resistance syndrome(IRS).Methods The rat model was induced by feeding with high-fat,high-glucose and high-salt diet.in the 4th week, each group was given related medicine, rats were killed after treating with medicine for 8 weeks, the phagocytosis of Mφ(method of colorimetric) in rat abdominal cavity, the proliferation activity of splenic T and B-lymphocyte and the cytotoxic activity of splenic natural killer(NK) cells(method of MTT) were detected under aseptic condition. Results Compared with model group, the proliferation activity of splenic T and B-lymphocytes was increased in EEPL high and medium groups obviously(P0.05 or P0.01),the cytotoxic activity of splenic NK cells and the phagocytosis of Mφ in each EEPL group were enhanced, and the difference was statistically significant(P0.05 or P0.01).Conclusion EEPL can improve immune regulation in rats with IRS.
