Anti-adipogenic effects of various traditional bioresources in Korea during the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes

2016
The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-oxidant and anti-adipogenic effects of various traditional bioresources. The results revealed that Castanea crenata Siebold & Zucc. showed the higher total flavonoids content (47.90±0.92 mg QE/g) and ABTS radical scavenging activity (28.15±1.16 IC50) than those of other traditional bioresources. Furthermore, Cornus officinalis Siebold & Zucc. showed the higher than those of other traditional bioresources in reducing power (0.74±0.04). All of the traditional bioresources markedly reduced lipid accumulation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in 3T3-L1 cells. It was investigated by Oil red O staining and NBT assay. In addition, traditional bioresources inhibited the expression levels of adipogenic transcription factors such as a PPAR-γ and C/EBP-a. These results indicate that traditional bioresources exerts the anti-oxidant and anti-adipogenic effects through a mechanism(s) that may involve downregulation of adipogenesis.
