Current Status about COVID-19 Impacts on Online Education System: A Review in Bangladesh

2021
The purpose of this paper is to explore the current status of online education and COVID-19 impacts on the educational system in Bangladesh. Like some other countries, the government has taken initiatives to continue classes through television and other online platforms. However, teachers and students experienced some problems and challenges in the online education system. Among them, poor network speed, lack of knowledge about online communication system created a communication gap during online classes. It was found that teachers were not well trained and had not sufficient knowledge about technology for conducting online classes. Alternatively, many students were unable to participate in online classes because of poor socioeconomic status with no digital devices and poor internet connection for living in rural areas. Even though some of the students had these opportunities to participate in online classes, they lack concentration during online classes because of the new class format and poor lecture presentation of teachers. Students faced a financial crisis and unable to bear educational expenses like giving semester fees, buying digital devices, and a high-cost data pack. The university final year students have suffered psychological pressure because they missed their opportunity to apply for several jobs circulars. The government is trying to take appropriate measures to solve these problems but they are getting out of hand. So, policymakers should take more practical solutions for this educational sector so that there can be no more educational gap.
