Application of Neuroendoscopy in Diagnosis and Treatment of Pineal Region Tumors with Obstructive Hydrophalus

揖ABSTRACT铱 BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: The management of pineal region tumors is still challenging to neurosurgerons because of the complicated adjacent anatomy and the deep location of the tumors. We investigated the role of neuroendoscopy in the diagnosis and the treatment of pineal region tumors with obstructive hydrocephalus. METHODS: Fifty鄄 three patients with tumors located in pineal region with hydrocephalus underwent neuroendoscopic third ventriculostomy with simultaneous tumor biopsy. RESULTS: Hydrocephalus of all cases was relieved and pathological samples were obtained in 51 patients. CONCLUSION: Neuroendoscopic treament is certainly effective in early stage to diagnose and treat tumors of pineal region with obstructive hydrocephalus.
