Neurectomy of the palmar digital nerves is a commonly employed surgical technique to treat chronicheel pain in horses that have frequently failed to respond to other therapeutic modalities. Althoughit is generally advocated that the procedure be performed with the horse anesthetized, it is possibleto perform the procedure in the standing patient.
