The clinical application of renal autotransplantation

Purpose:To investigate the value of renal autotransplantation.Methods:Nine patients underwent renal transplantation. Three involving renovascular hypertension(RVH), three involving abdominal aortic aneuorysm(AAA), two with renal cell carcinoma, and one with long ureteral tumor. The follow-up period ranged from 6 to 72 months(mean 35).Results:No post-operation complications occurred. Eight patients had normal kidney functions, one died of brain metastasis.Conclusions:Despite the development of micro-invasive and endoscopic surgery, renal autotransplantation represents an effective treatment for selected diseases and has a good long-term result.
