Qualitative and quantitative analysis of lubricating oil using dimethyl poly siloxane as stationary phase in gas chromatography

2014
The utilization of lubricating oils is an important factor in the rational use of petroleum products in engine motors. Three lubricating oil samples were separated using dimethyl poly siloxane as stationary phase packed in capillary column in gas chromatography. The light hydrocarbons from ethane and heavy paraffinic hydrocarbons up to C45 + were completely separated qualitatively and quantitatively in one run using one column. It has been found that capillary column of length 60 m enough giving good separation of sharp and symmetric peaks which positively reflected on the quantitative determination of all paraffinic hydrocarbons in crude oil samples.
