Japanese Beetles; Attractancy of Phenethyl Propionate + Eugenol (3:7) and Synthetic Eugenol

1976
Traps baited with phenethyl propionate (PEP) + eugenol in a ratio of 3:7 were 23–30% more attractive to Popillia japonica Newman than the standard, PEP + eugenol in a ratio of 7:3. In addition, the new mixture, which is now being used for survey by Federal and State Agencies, is only ca. ¾ as volatile as the standard. Synthetically produced eugenol was as attractive as natural eugenol U.S.P. when it was exposed in the field as a component of PEP + eugenol (7:3).
