Current Classification of Bioceramic Materials in Endodontics

2021
Bioceramics are ceramic materials that are biocompatible. These subsets of biomaterials are very diverse and their biocompatibility varies from being inert to the other extreme of resorbable materials, which are eventually replaced by the body after they have assisted repair. In dentistry, a number of materials can potentially be classed as bioceramics. However, this term is used to describe a number of materials used in endodontics specifically the newer hydraulic calcium silicate–based cements. Since there are a number of materials with a similar chemistry, this chapter will attempt at a material classification based on their chemistries.
