Application of environmental management of a shrimp culture farm using cleaner production tools

2008
The aim of this work is to introduce the opportunities of implementation of cleaner production (CP) in a shrimp culture farm. The methodology used was exploratory research implemented in a production unit located in the Northeast Brazil. The scientific article approaches the generic aspects of the technique about the management of the water use, energy and the effluent characterization of this productive activity. It discusses quantitative aspects, environmental questions and opportunities of CP during the productive process phases. The results indicate to input economy in the form of feed, soil correctives, medicines, and energy applied to the process, which vary from 4% to 27%, emphasizing that the small profit should be viewed as a source of considerable environment return. The authors conclude for the adoption of this technique in this agribusiness segment, discussing the importance of the management of the input dosage in the quality of the final effluent. Besides of that, the adoption of a physicalchemistry mechanism remediation to the residual of sodium metabissulphite was used in the process of shrimp caught. Key words: cleaner production, culture of shrimps, environmental impacts, sodium metabissulfite, physicalchemistry remediation.
