Nomenclature for Two-Dimensional (2-D) Gel Patterns of the HLA Class II α and β Chains Defined in the Tenth Workshop

1989
The provisional Tenth Workshop two-dimensional (2-D) gel nomenclature indicates the conclusion of the participants as to whether the spots found in 2-D patterns in different cell lines have identical or distinct pI and molecular weight. Details of the analysis are presented later in these Workshop Proceedings (Volume I). This nomenclature should be considered provisional, since analysis of the 2-D patterns in this study alone does not formally demonstrate that a given pattern represents the product of a specific class II gene. The alleles for each class II locus will eventually be given official WHO nomenclature based on confirmed cDNA sequences. Therefore, the Tenth Workshop nomenclature for the 2-D gel patterns will remain provisional until the corresponding alleles are given official WHO designations. A complete listing of the 2-D gel patterns assigned to specific class II DR and DQ loci is shown in Table 1 with the DNA sequence of the most closely associated allele.
