Transvaginal ultrasonography in the assessment of local extension of rectal cancer

1991
: To explore potentialities of transvaginal sonography in the diagnosis of rectal tumors 33 female patients were examined. Transvaginal sonography was shown to be optimum for accurate local staging of rectal tumors. The overall staging accuracy for transvaginal sonography in this study was 94%. There were one understaged and one overstaged cases. Pathological pararectal lymph nodes were detected in 57.5% of the patients.
