2021
Aim: to analyze in the literature the habits associated with anterior open bite in children. Methods: a bibliographic search was performed for articles published from 2015 to 2020 in the online databases PubMed (National Libary of Medicine) and Embase, using MeSH descriptors and synonyms, with the following steps: identification of works, screening, eligibility and inclusion. Randomized clinical trials, cross-sectional or cohort studies were included, articles that demonstrated habits associated with anterior open bite in children aged 2 to 12 years. Case reports and literature reviews were excluded. Results: of a total of 394 articles found, only 9 were selected for the study. Through the analysis, it was observed that the maintenance of oral habits such as digital sucking, according to what was stated in 66.6% of the studies, of pacifiers (77.7%), bottle use (33.3%) and duration of breastfeeding time (22.2%), can cause changes in occlusion, speech, breathing, craniofacial growth, directly affecting the child's quality of life. Conclusion: Since childhood is the appropriate phase for the implementation of new healthy habits and treatments, it is essential that the dentist knows this association and adopts therapeutic and preventive measures.
