The Lunar Orbiter Photography Mission
2018
The purpose of the Lunar Orbiter program was to photograph potential Apollo landing sites in good detail from lunar orbit. The program launched five spacecraft into lunar orbit to photograph lunar terrain between August 1966 and August 1967. All five spacecraft were successful. The photography operation of each mission was also largely successful. Resolution of some of the photographs was as fine as 1 meter (3.28 feet).
